It’s been about three years since I tested my Father’s autosomal DNA (test carried out in 2016) with the hope of furthering my genealogical research with the aid of science. It has wielded results that are far better than I ever expected. These matches are shown below / currently I am only listing matches in relation to my 5x great-grandparents. I have also listed ancestors (highlighted) for which I am currently missing DNA for.
Most of the missing DNA I have on my paternal tree relates to my East European branches, of which research is ongoing and very few DNA tests have been carried out.
Autosomal DNA is a term used in genetic genealogy to describe DNA which is inherited from the autosomal chromosomes. An autosome is any of the numbered chromosomes, as opposed to the sex chromosomes. Humans have 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes (the X chromosome and the Y chromosome). Autosomes are numbered roughly in relation to their sizes. That is, Chromosome 1 has approximately 2,800 genes, while chromosome 22 has approximately 750 genes. There is no established abbreviation for autosomal DNA: atDNA (more common) and auDNA are used.
